Glenview, Illinois (October 30, 2017) – When Jerry Weiss, the founder of Weiss & Company LLP, passed away in 1995 his family and friends were eager to do something to honor his legacy. Jerry was incredibly passionate about education and enjoyed giving back to the community. The idea of memorializing his love for education with an accounting focused scholarship seemed like a natural fit, and the Jerry Weiss Memorial Fund at the University of Illinois at Chicago was established.
The Jerry Weiss Memorial Fund is a permanently endowed scholarship awarded to business students primarily interested in pursuing careers in public accounting. The chosen recipients are presented with this scholarship at the school’s annual accounting banquet. This year, 6 scholarships were awarded to deserving students. Dan Fortman, Managing Partner of Weiss & Company and Mrs. Naomi Weiss were present to award the scholarships.
“It is so rewarding to help these students achieve their dream of becoming accountants. Being able to award 6 scholarships this year in Jerry’s name was incredible,” said Dan Fortman.
The endowment continues to grow through donations made by Jerry Weiss’s family, friends and Weiss & Company LLP. Most recently it has grown through a large donation made by a dedicated Weiss & Company client eager to carry on Jerry’s legacy.
