Audit Assignments: A Place to Try Everything

I didn’t start college thinking I would become an accountant, but a career assessment test highlighted it for me. I graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2016, and when a job with another accounting firm fell through, I was connected with Weiss.

It was a great fit. I started as a tax associate, but I voiced my interest in audits. Once we got through the first tax season, people remembered that I was interested, and started sending audit assignments my way. I worked my way into becoming an audit team member, and now I’m a senior accountant, with a primary focus on audits. That’s the great thing about Weiss: they really want to find the right place for everyone, especially the young team members. There is flexibility to try everything. I don’t think you get that at a lot of firms.

They also help you with career development. I have a mentor here, and we go out to lunch to check in and catch up. I also worked with partners right from the start, which I really liked. Everyone is friendly; it’s not cutthroat competitive. It’s motivated me to study for the CPA exam to get to the next level – Weiss is just a great work environment.
