Emergency Audits 101: Weiss Goes Above and Beyond for a Startup in Need
Like all good accounting firms, Weiss & Company LLP relishes the opportunity to demonstrate our ability to go “above and beyond” for our clients. With that in mind, we’re pleased to share the following story from Weiss senior manager Jeremy Morgan.
Early this year, a local tech startup focused on smart building solutions was in need of an audit, which their shareholder agreement required they provide annually to investors. The startup had previously engaged with a large national accounting firm to handle the job, but in early February the firm informed them that they would not be able to meet the April 30th deadline set forth in the shareholder agreement. (In fact, they were told that the audit would not be completed until September at the earliest!) Instead of panicking, they got on the phone and made a few calls, including one to Dan Fortman here at Weiss. While the timing wasn’t ideal for any accounting firm in the middle of tax season, Dan recognized the opportunity to demonstrate the “can do” culture of Weiss to a new client.
As a mid-size firm, it’s always been Weiss’s mission to deliver great service and exceed client expectations on every project. But in this case, Weiss also had an opportunity to demonstrate their ability to react and adapt quickly and effectively. Which is exactly what we did.
Our seasoned audit team was able to get on the audit at the conclusion of the business tax season (3/15/22) and finish in plenty of time to meet the shareholder agreement deadline. The audit itself was done mostly virtually, and the startup, which specializes in smart building solutions, was so pleased with the outcome and experience that Weiss will continue to provide their annual audit moving forward.
