From Farm to Firm: Finding the Right Fit at Weiss

I grew up on a hobby farm in Wisconsin, but I decided to double major in economics and accounting at University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. When I graduated in 2014, I started working at a bigger accounting firm. I found I didn’t like to be pigeonholed into one area – focusing specifically on taxes for manufacturing properties – and when I found Weiss, it was a much better fit for me.

I started off as an audit associate, and now I’m a senior accountant in the audit and assurance service area. At the larger firm, I never met any of the partners, and I never got to talk to or meet any of the clients. At Weiss, I regularly talk to clients and have direct access to partners. I work mostly with small and mid-sized businesses in manufacturing, construction, and transportation, and I love doing as much as I can with clients. I love working with our audit team, but I also help clients with tax returns.

It has also been a great place to grow my career. I have a formal mentor in the company, but really everyone here is a mentor. Everyone is always willing to be a resource and help you with anything you need.
